This AACs’ ADEPT series two-day training for law enforcement covers tips and techniques for interviewing members of the disability community, with “disability” defined broadly, as it is under the ADA. This includes interviewing older adults, people who do not traditionally communicate through speech, people with mental health disabilities, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, etc.

Participants will gain an understanding of how language and perspective impact interactions with the disability community, learn about accessibility and accommodations and discuss specific interactions and case examples. They will also practice interview skills, learn about resources that are available to law enforcement and first responders and participate in a question-and-answer session to allow for group discussion and learning.
