SUMMARY:OVWA Retreat: Hope & Healing from Within: Reducing the Toll of Vicarious Trauma by Practicing Somatic Techniques
DESCRIPTION:This IN-PERSON event is designed as a healing space to reconnect\, reflect\, and renew through laughter\, movement\, conversation\, and hope. Together\, we’ll explore the profound effects of vicarious trauma\, a shared experience for many advocates and professionals working with trauma survivors. You’ll participate in meaningful discussions around the emotional labor of “holding space” for trauma survivors and how the body absorbs and stores this impact. You’ll leave with practical\, body-centered strategies to support self-care\, resilience\, and sustained empathy in your role as a healing presence for others. \nFacilitated by Sonia Ferencik from ODVN and Wendy Ricks-Hoff of OVWA\, we will focus on understanding how vicarious trauma shows up in our bodies and minds by engaging in activities that help recognize\, release\, and regulate stress and secondary trauma. SUMMARY:ODVN - Domestic Violence Advocacy Fundamentals
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nJoin ODVN for this comprehensive\, foundational training series to develop core skills and enhance current knowledge of advocacy for domestic violence survivors. This virtual training series\, designed for new advocates or seasoned staff\, is comprised of four full days (20 hours) of live training and 20 hours of online pre-learning through ODVN’s eLearning Network. This updated DVAF training includes exciting new videos and participant engagement through scenarios\, break-out sessions and panel discussion. \nThe training is a pre-approved program through the Ohio Advocate Network (OAN) credentialing board and meets the training requirements for the Registered Advocate (RA) credential. \n***Pre-Learning Requirement: Attendance is required at all four dates. No partial credit will be given. This is a hybrid training that requires completing 20 hours of online learning prior to the 4 days of live training. \nCost: Free for ODVN Members (ODVN Member Program or Individual/Organizational Membership); $150 for Non-ODVN Members. \nDeadline to register: February 5th\, 2026 \nThis training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network.
