SUMMARY:ODVN - Intersections of Partner-Inflicted Brain Injury\, Oppression\, and Racism: Supporting Survivors of Color
DESCRIPTION:  \nHosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network: \nIntersections of Partner-Inflicted Brain Injury\, Oppression\, and Racism: Supporting Survivors of Color \nPlease join ODVN for this free\, virtual training. \n\n\nSurvivors of color have systemic barriers to accessing all types of services and are disproportionally impacted by challenges with access to housing\, employment\, social services\, and other social determinants of health. Speakers will discuss the unique characteristics of brain injury from violence and address the challenges and opportunities to support survivors of color using the CARE model (Connect\, Acknowledge\, Respond\, Evaluate)\, a brain injury aware\, trauma-informed\, and survivor-directed framework developed by ODVN and The Ohio State University. WomenatthecentrE is an organization that centers the voices of women-identified survivors of gendered violence.    \nThis training is designed for advocates at all skill levels.  \nTrainers: Rachel Ramirez\, LISW-S\, RA\, Director of Health and Disability Programs and Founder of the Center on Partner-Inflicted Brain Injury\, ODVN; Nneka MacGregor\, Executive Director\, WomenatthecentrE \nDeadline to Register: Friday\, March 15\, 2024 \nThis training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. SUMMARY:ODVN - Child Witnesses: The Impact of Domestic Violence
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network: \nChild Witnesses: The Impact of Domestic Violence\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChildren and teenagers exposed to domestic violence have many worries\, fears\, and hopes in their daily lives. In 2022\, Ohio’s domestic violence programs reported that nearly 5\,000 children were residing in their shelters and in hotels with their parents. These are the children known to domestic violence programs\, yet there are many more living behind closed doors\, witnessing domestic violence and navigating mandated visitation.  Advocates working in shelters\, community outreach\, prevention\, schools\, and other settings must recognize the needs of child witnesses and their parents to support them as they navigate through their days and show their resilience. \nJoin Sonia Ferencik as she presents on how exposure to a parent/partner who abuses creates an environment of chronic stress and unpredictability. This training will deepen your knowledge\, enhance your engagement skills\, and increase trauma-responsive strategies to support children and teenagers. Content will include an overview of child development\, trauma reactions\, and the complexities of working with children and teenagers using a mind-body trauma-responsive approach.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresenter: Sonia Ferencik\, LISW-S\, RA\, 200-hr CYT\, Youth Advocacy and Trauma Informed Services Coordinator\, ODVN \nCost: Free for ODVN Members (ODVN Member Program or Individual/Organizational Membership); $25 for Non-ODVN Members. \nDeadline to register: April 11\, 2024. \nThis training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. SUMMARY:ODVN - Court Advocacy Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network: \nCourt Advocacy Roundtable\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA court advocate can play an important role in a domestic violence survivor’s journey through the legal system\, not only by navigating the system but also by providing support and safety tips to the survivor. Often\, advocates focus on the legal system and forget to check in with survivors about other needs they may have\, leaving survivors with more stress than they had before their involvement with the legal system. This virtual roundtable will help advocates see the importance of supporting survivors with their legal needs\, while also understanding why it’s important to identify challenges survivors face when involved in the justice system. This training includes presenters and a panel of victim service professionals that will provide advocates with an understanding on the core meaning of legal advocacy\, how to assist survivors in navigating the civil and criminal justice systems\, and how to effectively partner with other victim service providers in their community. \nCost: Free \nDeadline to Register: Monday\, October 14\, 2024. \nThis event is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. Please contact ODVN at training@odvn.org with any questions.
