SUMMARY:ODVN - Seeing Beyond the Behavior: A Trauma-Informed Look at Youth Exposed to a Battering Partner/Parent
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nBehaviors are messages that help adults determine appropriate ways to support children. Experiences of trauma affect children and teens in the present moment\, shaping how they think\, feel\, and respond. This session challenges the outdated belief that certain behaviors are merely attention-seeking or manipulative\, and equips advocates with practical\, trauma-informed strategies to reduce secondary victimization and better support child and teen survivors. \nAdvocates will explore how exposure to domestic violence can create toxic stress\, trauma\, grief\, and fear\, and how batterers impact both children and adult victims. Advocates will gain a foundational understanding of how children may respond cognitively\, developmentally\, and emotionally to living with a batterer as a parent\, and how environments can sometimes exacerbate stress. Trauma-informed resources for children and adult victims will be shared to support families holistically. \nCost: Free for members (DV member program\, Organizational\, Individual); $25 for non-members \nRegistration ends March 26th  \nThis training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. Please contact ODVN at training@odvn.org with any questions. \n \n

The training will offer practical\, approachable strategies for coordinating resources across housing\, healthcare\, legal services\, education\, employment\, and social services to build meaningful\, wraparound advocacy plans. Facilitated by ODVN and COHHIO\, this session will also feature an engaging panel discussion with experts from the domestic violence and housing fields\, creating space for shared learning and connection. \nCost: Free for members (DV member program\, Organizational\, Individual); $25 for non-members \nRegistration ends March 31st \nThis training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. SUMMARY:ODVN - "Connected in Care" Advocate's Quarterly Peer Support: A Conversation about Storyholding vs. Storycarrying
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nThis quarterly peer support session invites advocates into a reflective and restorative conversation about the difference between storyholding and storycarrying in our work with survivors. Through guided discussion and writing and art-based reflection activities\, advocates will have space to process their experiences creatively and collectively. This session strengthens boundaries\, nurtures collective care practices\, and supports sustainable advocacy that centers both survivor dignity and advocate well-being. \nRegistration ends April 14th. \nThis event is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. SUMMARY:ODVN - Youth Advocacy Caucus: Strengthening Support for Parents and Children: Key Considerations in Post-Separation Parenting and Visitation
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nThe May Youth Advocacy Caucus brings together two ODVN programs—the Legal Assistance Program and Youth Advocacy Initiatives—to emphasize the importance of family-centered awareness and services within domestic violence (DV) programs. \nToo often\, DV programs focus primarily on adult survivors during court proceedings and safety planning\, while children and teens become an afterthought—particularly when considering how visitation impacts their well-being. \nThis caucus encourages advocates to intentionally address the effects of visitation on children and family dynamics\, and to confidently engage parents in conversations about those impacts. There should be no gap in services. We must advance a family-centered understanding that supports both the protective parent and the children navigating life between households. \nDesigned to equip domestic violence advocates with practical insight\, this caucus will explore how abuse dynamics can continue through custody and visitation arrangements\, identify ongoing safety concerns\, and strengthen survivor-centered\, trauma-informed advocacy strategies for the entire family. \nRegistration ends April 30th. \nThis event is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. Please contact SoniaF@odvn.org with any questions.
