DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nThe May Youth Advocacy Caucus brings together two ODVN programs—the Legal Assistance Program and Youth Advocacy Initiatives—to emphasize the importance of family-centered awareness and services within domestic violence (DV) programs. \nToo often\, DV programs focus primarily on adult survivors during court proceedings and safety planning\, while children and teens become an afterthought—particularly when considering how visitation impacts their well-being. \nThis caucus encourages advocates to intentionally address the effects of visitation on children and family dynamics\, and to confidently engage parents in conversations about those impacts. There should be no gap in services. We must advance a family-centered understanding that supports both the protective parent and the children navigating life between households. \nDesigned to equip domestic violence advocates with practical insight\, this caucus will explore how abuse dynamics can continue through custody and visitation arrangements\, identify ongoing safety concerns\, and strengthen survivor-centered\, trauma-informed advocacy strategies for the entire family. \nRegistration ends April 30th. \nThis event is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office: \n10th Annual Responding to the Needs of Victims Conference \nPractical Guidance on Marsy’s Law\, featuring Nationally Recognized Expert\, Attorney Elizabeth Well\, OCVJC \nThe passage of Marsy’s Law and subsequent implementing legislation (House Bill 343) increased the number of crime victims who have constitutional rights in the justice system. Marsy’s Law instituted additional mandates on many systems professionals\, including but not limited to law enforcement\, courts\, probation\, parole\, and prosecutors. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Crime Victim Services Section of Attorney General Yost’s office: \n2025 Two Days in May (TDIM) Conference on Victim Assistance \nThis annual gathering brings together advocates and others from across disciplines to focus on best practices\, explore trends\, study developments and changes within the field\, learn about legislative updates\, and network. This year’s conference takes place once again at the Hilton Columbus Downtown\, 402 N. High St. \nThe Crime Victim Services Section of Attorney General Dave Yost’s office\, conference partners\, and workshop presenters from across disciplines will offer an array of professional-development opportunities for victim advocates\, social workers\, health-care professionals\, and others who serve their communities and/or the criminal-justice system. \nThe conference includes: \n–An opening session on Monday featuring remarks from Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost\, followed by a keynote presentation from Teresa Stafford-Wright\, CEO of the Hope & Healing Survivor Resource Center in northeastern Ohio\, who shares an inspiring personal story of healing and moving on to do good for others. \n–A Tuesday keynote session in which elected officials and a therapist from Gallia County dissect an unspeakable case of child abuse\, explaining how – in resource- and cash-strapped Appalachia Ohio – perseverance and collaboration yielded justice for those who sought it. \n–Selections from 35 workshops with a wide range of themes\, including how to help survivors tell their stories\, how to navigate ambiguity and doubt in child sex-abuse cases\, how child-support cases and domestic violence intersect\, and how advocates can care for themselves while caring for others. \n–A continental breakfast on Monday\, a catered awards luncheon on Tuesday\, drop-in sessions both days with AGO staff from the VOCA/SVAA Grants Unit and the Ohio Crime Victims’ Compensation Program; access to information from vendors and nonprofit organizations\, and more. \nRegistration\, available online only\, is $125 per person. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network: \nJustice Systems Advocacy\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis virtual\, two-day training focuses on working within the civil and criminal justice systems in partnership with survivors of domestic violence. Experts with extensive experience will provide information about the realities of navigating the court system for victims of domestic violence. The training focuses on the civil legal system and remedies developed for victims\, including extensive learning and discussing civil protection orders. \nOther topics include Ohio domestic violence criminal law\, how the criminal system and process work\, and what protections are available to survivors. You will learn practical ways to advocate for victims involved with the criminal justice system and work with survivors who are charged with crimes.
