SUMMARY:ODVN - Meeting Survivors at the Intersections of Domestic Violence & Human Trafficking
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nThis presentation is designed to equip victim advocates with a deeper understanding of the critical overlap between domestic violence and human trafficking. Although often categorized separately\, these forms of abuse frequently coexist\, creating complex safety and support needs for survivors. We will explore how traffickers leverage tactics commonly seen in intimate partner violence—such as isolation\, economic control\, emotional manipulation\, and threats—to recruit\, maintain control\, and prevent disclosure. Advocates will learn practical strategies for recognizing crossover red flags\, conducting trauma-informed screenings\, and responding safely when trafficking may be present in a domestic violence case. The session also addresses barriers that prevent survivors from seeking help\, including fear of retaliation\, legal concerns\, system mistrust\, and cultural dynamics. Participants will leave with tools to strengthen coordinated community responses\, enhance survivor autonomy\, and provide holistic\, empowerment-based support for individuals experiencing both domestic violence and human trafficking. \nCost: Free for members (DV member program\, Organizational\, Individual); $20 for non-members \nRegistration ends January 16th \nThis training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. Please contact ODVN at training@odvn.org with any questions. \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:OVWA Retreat: Hope & Healing from Within: Reducing the Toll of Vicarious Trauma by Practicing Somatic Techniques
DESCRIPTION:This IN-PERSON event is designed as a healing space to reconnect\, reflect\, and renew through laughter\, movement\, conversation\, and hope. Together\, we’ll explore the profound effects of vicarious trauma\, a shared experience for many advocates and professionals working with trauma survivors. You’ll participate in meaningful discussions around the emotional labor of “holding space” for trauma survivors and how the body absorbs and stores this impact. You’ll leave with practical\, body-centered strategies to support self-care\, resilience\, and sustained empathy in your role as a healing presence for others. \nFacilitated by Sonia Ferencik from ODVN and Wendy Ricks-Hoff of OVWA\, we will focus on understanding how vicarious trauma shows up in our bodies and minds by engaging in activities that help recognize\, release\, and regulate stress and secondary trauma. Hope and healing are rooted in fostering emotional resilience\, which prevents burnout and strengthens empathy in our professional roles and personal lives.  Join us for a day of renewal\, hope\, and healing! \nThis member-only event is FREE to attend\, with space limited to 30 attendees. \nLocation: Highbanks MetroPark\, 9466 Columbus Pike\, Lewis Center\, OH\, 43035 \n  \n\n  \nThis training is applicable for CEUs from OAN\, NACP\, and preapproved for counselors\, social workers\, and marriage & family therapists through the State of Ohio CSWMFT Board. If you need accommodations to attend this training\, please email us at info@ovwa.org at least one week before the event date.

SUMMARY:ODVN - Invisible Injuries: Traumatic Brain Injury\, Strangulation and Domestic Violence
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nDomestic violence often involves blows to the head\, neck\, or face and strangulation—yet the resulting brain injuries are still frequently overlooked and untreated. This webinar will share findings from Ohio’s groundbreaking research on partner-inflicted brain injury\, including data from domestic violence programs and police calls. We will define partner-inflicted brain injury\, review the realities of concussion and strangulation\, outline common signs and symptoms\, and introduce CARE (Connect\, Acknowledge\, Respond\, Evaluate)\, an evidence-based framework for supporting survivors.  \nCost: Free for all \nRegistration ends March 13th  \nThis training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network.
