SUMMARY:ODVN - "Connected in Care" Advocate's Quarterly Peer Support: A Conversation about Storyholding vs. Storycarrying
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nThis quarterly peer support session invites advocates into a reflective and restorative conversation about the difference between storyholding and storycarrying in our work with survivors. Together\, we will explore how to compassionately witness and honor survivor experiences without internalizing or carrying the emotional weight in ways that contribute to burnout or vicarious trauma. Through guided discussion and writing and art-based reflection activities\, advocates will have space to process their experiences creatively and collectively. This session strengthens boundaries\, nurtures collective care practices\, and supports sustainable advocacy that centers both survivor dignity and advocate well-being. \nRegistration ends April 14th. \nThis event is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. Please contact ODVN at training@odvn.org with any questions. \n \n

SUMMARY:ODVN - Youth Advocacy Caucus: Strengthening Support for Parents and Children: Key Considerations in Post-Separation Parenting and Visitation
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nThe May Youth Advocacy Caucus brings together two ODVN programs—the Legal Assistance Program and Youth Advocacy Initiatives—to emphasize the importance of family-centered awareness and services within domestic violence (DV) programs. \nToo often\, DV programs focus primarily on adult survivors during court proceedings and safety planning\, while children and teens become an afterthought—particularly when considering how visitation impacts their well-being. \nThis caucus encourages advocates to intentionally address the effects of visitation on children and family dynamics\, and to confidently engage parents in conversations about those impacts. There should be no gap in services. We must advance a family-centered understanding that supports both the protective parent and the children navigating life between households. \nDesigned to equip domestic violence advocates with practical insight\, this caucus will explore how abuse dynamics can continue through custody and visitation arrangements\, identify ongoing safety concerns\, and strengthen survivor-centered\, trauma-informed advocacy strategies for the entire family. \nRegistration ends April 30th. \nThis event is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. Please contact SoniaF@odvn.org with any questions.
