DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nJoin ODVN and experts from across Ohio for the crucial training on holistically supporting survivors with their mental health needs. This two–half-day training will equip participants with a clear understanding of the most common mental health disorders experienced by survivors of trauma. Presenters and participants will explore the complex intersection between trauma\, domestic violence\, and mental illness\, highlighting how these dynamics influence survivor needs and advocacy approaches. The training will challenge and debunk prevalent myths and misconceptions about mental illness and clarify healthy advocacy boundaries. Participants will learn practical strategies for offering trauma-informed\, non-clinical support while remaining firmly within their professional role. This is an interactive training opportunity\, with activities throughout the event that will reinforce learning and promote skill-building when working with survivors navigating mental health concerns. On Day 2\, there will be a panel discussion featuring leaders from Ohio’s domestic violence programs\, offering valuable insights and fostering cross-program collaboration to improve survivor outcomes. \nThis training will take place on March 10th and 11th\, from 9 AM to 12 PM on each day.  \nCost: Free for ODVN Members (ODVN Member Program or Individual/Organizational Membership); $50 for Non-ODVN Members. \nRegistration ends on March 5th \nThis training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. SUMMARY:ODVN - Invisible Injuries: Traumatic Brain Injury\, Strangulation and Domestic Violence
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nDomestic violence often involves blows to the head\, neck\, or face and strangulation—yet the resulting brain injuries are still frequently overlooked and untreated. This leads to significant gaps: survivors may struggle with unrecognized injuries\, professionals may miss opportunities to offer effective support\, and systems may not account for the impact of trauma and domestic violence. This webinar will share findings from Ohio’s groundbreaking research on partner-inflicted brain injury\, including data from domestic violence programs and police calls. SUMMARY:ODVN - Starting Anew: Strategies and Support for Survivors Facing Bankruptcy
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nAdvocates often support survivors who are facing overwhelming debt\, housing instability\, or damaged credit\, often alongside family law cases. Bankruptcy may be one possible tool\, but it can feel confusing or intimidating\, especially when economic abuse and survivor safety are part of the picture. This legal caucus will provide advocates with a basic overview of bankruptcy\, how it may intersect with family law cases\, and when a referral to a bankruptcy attorney may be helpful. The focus will be on strengthening advocate understanding and collaboration with attorneys while continuing to provide survivor-centered\, safety-informed support. \nODVN Legal Caucus meetings are free and open to everyone. \nThis meeting is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. SUMMARY:ODVN - Seeing Beyond the Behavior: A Trauma-Informed Look at Youth Exposed to a Battering Partner/Parent
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\nBehaviors are messages that help adults determine appropriate ways to support children. Experiences of trauma affect children and teens in the present moment\, shaping how they think\, feel\, and respond. This session challenges the outdated belief that certain behaviors are merely attention-seeking or manipulative\, and equips advocates with practical\, trauma-informed strategies to reduce secondary victimization and better support child and teen survivors. \nAdvocates will explore how exposure to domestic violence can create toxic stress\, trauma\, grief\, and fear\, and how batterers impact both children and adult victims. Advocates will gain a foundational understanding of how children may respond cognitively\, developmentally\, and emotionally to living with a batterer as a parent\, and how environments can sometimes exacerbate stress.
