DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Ohio Domestic Violence Network: \nProper documentation is essential when working with survivors of domestic violence. This one and one-half day training assists advocates by providing a greater understanding of using trauma-informed principles in documentation. You will learn where\, why\, and when to document and identify the risks of documenting too little or too much and the risks unique to custody cases. You will learn about best practices for informed releases of information and confidentiality provisions in VOCA\, VAWA\, and FVPSA. Other topics include managing external requests and protecting documentation when responding to subpoenas and file requests. \nThis is a 2-day training: Day 1 is 9 AM to 4 PM and Day 2 is 9 AM to 12 PM. The core purpose of the child-support program\, to ensure that families receive reliably consistent support\, is ideally aligned to promote survivors’ ability to safely leave violent relationships and establish safe\, independent living situations for themselves and their children. For those who work with survivors who have questions about child support\, this training provides an overview of Ohio’s child-support program\, including the role of county child-support agencies and the work being done at the state and local levels to make the program safer for survivors of domestic violence through the Safe Access for Victims’ Economic Security (SAVES) grant.   \nThis training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. SUMMARY:ODVN - Building Inclusive Programs for Male Survivors of Violence
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Ohio Domestic Violence Network: \nA national survey from the Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that nearly a quarter (24 percent) of domestic violence survivors are male (National Crime Victimization Survey\, 2014). However\, the image of a domestic violence survivor is typically that of a girl or woman. Stereotyped depictions and language about domestic violence can make male survivors feel left out\, unsupported\, and disbelieved when they share their experiences. In this training\, participants will explore statistics about the impacts of domestic violence on men\, including barriers to services and the ways that gender norms can impact access and service delivery. Participants will apply trauma-informed responses to working with boys and men as victims in domestic violence services and learn strategies to promote outreach and inclusivity.   \nRegistration ends July 9th.  \nCost: Free with ODVN membership. $25 for non-members. \nThis training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services: \nOhioMHAS\, in collaboration with the National Organization for Victim Advocacy (NOVA) is planning a series of regional NOVA Crisis Response Team Trainings for 2025. These free trainings\, funded through SAMHSA’s Bipartisan Safer Communities Act Grant will take place between February and August 2025\, in several counties around the state. Trainings are geared toward mental health professionals\, victim advocates\, law enforcement personnel\, and others who confront human crisis in their work. Instructors explain the impact of trauma on individuals and groups\, explore crisis intervention theory\, and prepare participants to offer trauma-informed advocacy to individuals impacted by disaster. \nNOVA Basic Trainings: \n–8:00 a.m. 0 5:00 p.m. April 29th – May 1st\, 2025\, at the Seneca County EMS conference room in Tiffin\, Ohio.
