This one and one-half day training assists advocates by providing a greater understanding of using trauma-informed principles in documentation. You will learn where\, why\, and when to document and identify the risks of documenting too little or too much and the risks unique to custody cases. You will learn about best practices for informed releases of information and confidentiality provisions in VOCA\, VAWA\, and FVPSA. Other topics include managing external requests and protecting documentation when responding to subpoenas and file requests. Join ODVN trainers for this informative and engaging training featuring break-out sessions and role-plays. \nPlease note that this is a two-day training\, with Day 1 from 9 AM to 4 PM and Day 2 from 9 AM to 12 PM. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Ohio Domestic Violence Network: \nTrauma-Informed Programming: A Low-Barrier Model to Shelter Rules & Guidelines \nIn this training designed for residential and shelter programs serving domestic violence survivors\, participants will explore the use of the Trauma-Informed Care framework to reduce barriers for survivors in their programs. Participants will identify strategies for implementing voluntary service requirements in shelter programs\, as well as policies that violate the voluntary service requirements of federal funders. Participants will apply the concepts of Trauma-Informed Care to scenarios that navigate challenges common to shelter programs\, such as curfews\, supporting children and parenting\, mental health concerns with survivors\, and low program engagement. At the end of this training\, participants will have identified ways that they can shift their practices and perspectives to reduce barriers for survivors in shelter and create clear communication around program guidelines that follow voluntary service standards. \nRegistration ends April 24th.  \nCost: Free with a DV program\, organizational\, or individual membership. $25 for non-members.

This training will provide participants with an overview of the intersection of substance use\, mental health\, and trauma and how Harm Reduction principles and practices offer needed accommodations for survivors seeking safety from abuse. These practices acknowledge that drug use/abuse is a part of life and seek to reduce the harmful effects for survivors. They look at drug use on a continuum of severity and need and attempt to connect individuals with a sense of community without an “abstinence only” narrative. This updated DVAF training includes exciting new videos and participant engagement through scenarios\, break-out sessions and panel discussion. \nThe training is a pre-approved program through the Ohio Advocate Network (OAN) credentialing board and meets the training requirements for the Registered Advocate (RA) credential. The topics include: \n— Holistic Case Management: professional boundaries and ethics\, service excellence\, meaningful access\, and accommodations \n— Victimization Process: life generated and batterer generated risks\, perpetrator accountability\, rules of a batterer\, impact of a batterer on children and teens\, and supporting parents as survivors \n— Survivor-Defined Advocacy: principles of trauma-informed care\, impact of trauma in the brain and body\, active listening\, empathy\, and vicarious trauma \n— Safety Planning: court safety\, safety and visitation\, considerations for survivors from underserved communities (LGBTQIA+\, BIPOC\, older adults\, etc.)\, danger and lethality assessments\, technology and safety \n— Legal Advocacy: legal remedies for survivors\, legal resources\, risks and benefits of protection orders\, Ohio’s Crime Victim Compensation program \n— Cultural Responsiveness: implicit bias\, diversity\, equity\, and inclusion (DEI)\, impacts of systemic oppression and barriers for underserved communities \n***Pre-Learning Requirement: Before registering\, be sure that you can attend all three dates. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Ohio Domestic Violence Network: \nInvigorate Your Self-Care\, Shift your Mindset\, & Reduce Secondary Trauma Exposure with Daily Actions\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn today’s fast-paced\, high-stress world\, especially in caregiving and helping professions\, professionals are exposed to trauma through our work. Over time\, those of us who are regularly exposed to emotional or traumatic experiences through our work may experience secondary trauma\, which can take a toll on our mental\, emotional\, and physical well-being. This workshop is designed to empower you to take intentional steps towards self-care\, shift your mindset\, and build resilience — all while reducing the impact of secondary trauma. \nThrough interactive discussion\, reflection\, and peer sharing\, participants will recognize the signs and symptoms of secondary trauma and burnout and develop practical\, daily self-care strategies to rejuvenate our mind\, body\, and spirit.
