SUMMARY:ODVN - Intersections of Partner-Inflicted Brain Injury\, Oppression\, and Racism: Supporting Survivors of Color
DESCRIPTION:  \nHosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network: \nIntersections of Partner-Inflicted Brain Injury\, Oppression\, and Racism: Supporting Survivors of Color \nPlease join ODVN for this free\, virtual training. \n\n\nSurvivors of color have systemic barriers to accessing all types of services and are disproportionally impacted by challenges with access to housing\, employment\, social services\, and other social determinants of health. As awareness is raised on brain injury as an unrecognized and unaddressed consequence of domestic violence\, identifying and addressing those barriers while developing culturally responsive approaches for all survivors is of paramount importance. \nThis training will bring together ODVN’s Rachel Ramirez\, Founder of the Center of Partner-Inflicted Brain Injury\, and Nneka MacGregor\, Executive Director of WomenatthecentrE in Toronto\, Canada\, as well as a panel of diverse experts to better understand the long-term impacts of concussion\, traumatic brain injury\, and strangulation. Speakers will discuss the unique characteristics of brain injury from violence and address the challenges and opportunities to support survivors of color using the CARE model (Connect\, Acknowledge\, Respond\, Evaluate)\, a brain injury aware\, trauma-informed\, and survivor-directed framework developed by ODVN and The Ohio State University. WomenatthecentrE is an organization that centers the voices of women-identified survivors of gendered violence.    \nThis training is designed for advocates at all skill levels.  \nTrainers: Rachel Ramirez\, LISW-S\, RA\, Director of Health and Disability Programs and Founder of the Center on Partner-Inflicted Brain Injury\, ODVN; Nneka MacGregor\, Executive Director\, WomenatthecentrE \nDeadline to Register: Friday\, March 15\, 2024 \nThis training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. Please contact ODVN at training@odvn.org with any questions.

SUMMARY:OVWA Quarterly Training: Marsy’s Law Implementation and Advocacy Best Practices
DESCRIPTION:Please join Elizabeth Well\, Legal Director\, Ohio Crime Victim Justice Center (OCVJC)\, Valerie Hooper\, R.A.\,C.A.\, Unit 107\, Victim Advocate/Offender Watch\, Supervisor\, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office\, Operations Division\, and Wendy Ricks Hoff\, BA\,RA CA\, TRCC\, OVWA Program Director\, to discuss best practices for systems advocacy and the implementation of Marsy’s Law. While crime victim rights have been in place since 1992\, Marsy’s Law and the passage of the constitutional amendment based on Marsy’s Law increased the strength of many existing laws as well as instituted additional mandates on many systems professionals. While criminal justice systems bear the bulk of the responsibility for crime victim rights mandates\, both systems- and community-based advocates may be in the position of ensuring these rights are protected and easily accessible. This training will identify the current legal requirements\, common difficulties in the implementation within the system\, and best practices and ethical considerations for advocates in balancing systems advocacy with crime victim rights advocacy in the criminal justice system. \nIf you require accommodations to attend this training\, please email info@ovwa.org no later than one week prior to the webinar date. \nThis training is preapproved for CEU’s from OAN\, NACP\, and the State of Ohio CSWMFT Board. \nRegister now!

SUMMARY:OVWA Webinar Wednesday: The Ohio Crisis Response Team
DESCRIPTION:Mass violence has become more frequent in our society and whether it be intentional mass murder\, automobile accidents\, or natural disasters\, crisis responders through the Ohio Crisis Response Team have been responding to incidents and providing services to communities since 1996. OCRT is a statewide crisis response team which uses the NOVA model of crisis response which utilizes trained volunteers from all backgrounds to provide crisis response and assistance to the state of Ohio and as a part of the National Crisis Response teams organized by NOVA. Due to the unique trauma and tragedies that impact communities\, advocates throughout Ohio have been actively involved with OCRT since its inception. In fact\, the team was founded by three victim advocacy leaders (and OVWA leaders and members) in Ohio who continue to manage the team today. This  training will provide information about OCRT\, practical crisis response skills\, and steps to consider when faced with a disaster in your own community. \nIf you require accommodations to attend this training\, please email info@ovwa.org no later than one week prior to the webinar date.

SUMMARY:OVWA Quarterly Member Training- Working with Dysregulated and Dissociated Survivors
DESCRIPTION:Join OVWA’s Wendy Ricks Hoff and ODVN’s Leah Stone and Sonia Ferencik for Working with Dysregulated and Dissociated Survivors Advanced Skills for Advocates This training is open and free of charge to all OVWA and ODVN Members!Traumatic experiences impact how survivors navigate stress and emotions for long after the abuse ends Although this knowledge can help normalize traumatic stress responses it can still be difficult as an advocate to navigate the responses of survivors and our physiological reactions in the moment Further Dissociation is a traumatic stress response that is often misunderstood and is shrouded in stigma Pop culture and media portray dissociation at its extremes but many survivors experience dissociation in their everyday lives without having the language to understand what is happening This training uses a trauma-informed lens to view distress dysregulation de-escalation and dissociation and provides participants with practical knowledge and skills to identify dysregulation education to recognize the signs of dissociation and practical strategies to promote de-escalation regulation re-integration and embodiment which can apply not only in work with survivors but with ourselves\nNot yet a member but would like to attend this training?
