SUMMARY:ODVN - In Plain Sight: Trafficking in Intimate Partner and Familial Relationships
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Ohio Domestic Violence Network: \nIn Plain Sight: Trafficking in Intimate Partner and Familial Relationships\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlthough human trafficking is often associated with images in popular media of abductions and stranger-danger messaging\, victims of human trafficking often experience abuse and exploitation from those they are closest to. Not only do these dynamics groom individuals for exploitation\, but tactics are utilized to keep individuals trapped in the cycle of exploitation. Participants will learn the tactics and dynamics of how trafficking happens within relationships\, strategies to support survivors that are exiting these relationships\, and application of effective safety planning strategies. \nThis training is appropriate for new and seasoned advocates.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCost: Free for ODVN Members (ODVN Member Program or Individual/Organizational Membership); $25 for Non-ODVN Members. \nDeadline to register: January 24\, 2025 \nThis event is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. SUMMARY:OVWA Quarterly Member Training: Trauma\, ACES\, PACES\, & the Resiliency of Survivors
DESCRIPTION:As service providers\, how can we center the strengths of youth and adult survivors\, while also validating their lived experiences of trauma and adversity? Join us as we take a deeper dive into trauma and resiliency. Attendees will learn how the groundbreaking research that led to the ACES questionnaire changed the landscape of our understanding of trauma and discuss how incorporating the newer research findings of PACES can influence trauma-responsive advocacy skills. Finally\, we will examine how to create necessary changes that enhance interactions with survivors through the creation of policies and procedures\, staff training\, direct service\, and resources and referrals. \nPresenter(s): Sonia Ferencik\, Youth and Trauma Services Manager\, ODVN; Wendy Ricks-Hoff\, Program Director\, OVWA \nThis training is preapproved for CEUs from OAN\, NACP\, and the State of Ohio CSWMFT Board. SUMMARY:ODVN - Court Advocacy Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network: \nCourt Advocacy Roundtable\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA court advocate can play an important role in a domestic violence survivor’s journey through the legal system\, not only by navigating the system but also by providing support and safety tips to the survivor. Often\, advocates focus on the legal system and forget to check in with survivors about other needs they may have\, leaving survivors with more stress than they had before their involvement with the legal system. This virtual roundtable will help advocates see the importance of supporting survivors with their legal needs\, while also understanding why it’s important to identify challenges survivors face when involved in the justice system. This training includes presenters and a panel of victim service professionals that will provide advocates with an understanding on the core meaning of legal advocacy\, how to assist survivors in navigating the civil and criminal justice systems\, and how to effectively partner with other victim service providers in their community. \nCost: Free \nDeadline to Register: Monday\, October 14\, 2024. \nThis event is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. SUMMARY:OVWA Webinar Wednesday: Trauma-Informed Safety Planning and Lethality Assessments - How to Quickly and Effectively Assist Domestic Violence Survivors in Assessing Personal Safety
DESCRIPTION:Please join OVWA and Alicia Williamson\, MSW\, LSW\, Assistant Deputy Director with the Ohio Domestic Violence Network\, to discuss essential trauma-informed safety planning skills and the use of lethality assessments for domestic violence survivors. Advocates working within systems are often providing emergency services to victims of domestic violence and\, while obtaining safety measures through the criminal justice system can be a necessity\, effective safety planning involves safety in all situations while not relying on an offender’s adherence to court orders. Attendees will learn how to quickly and effectively help a survivor assess their physical and emotional safety and develop preparation and planning for potential escalations of violence. There has been much discussion in the utilization and development of lethality assessments as a tool for safety awareness and planning\, and attendees will learn considerations for administering lethality assessments both within and outside of the criminal justice system. \nIf you require accommodations to attend this training please email us at info@ovwa.org no later than one week prior to the training. \nThis training is preapproved for CEU’s from OAN\, NACP\, and the State of Ohio CSWMFT Board.
