ODVN – Advocacy Skills Interactive Workshop: Active Listening Techniques in Survivors Defined Advocacy

June 26, 2025 @ 9:30 am11:30 am

Alternate Text

Hosted by Ohio Domestic Violence Network:

This advocacy skills workshop highlights active listening. Active listening is a foundational skill in advocacy when working with survivors of domestic violence. It requires attention, empathy, and a nonjudgmental presence. Advocates must create a safe, supportive environment where survivors feel heard and validated. This involves not only listening to their words but also noticing non-verbal cues that may reveal deeper emotions.

Effective advocacy goes beyond providing resources; it means empowering survivors, respecting their autonomy, and offering informed choices that support their healing journey. Advocates must be mindful of their own biases, practice patience, and approach each survivor with sensitivity to their unique experiences, ensuring their voices are central to the process.

Registration ends June 20th.

Cost: Free with a DV program, organizational, or individual membership. $20 for non-members.

This training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. Please contact ODVN at training@odvn.org with any questions.
