ODVN – Advocacy Skills Interactive Workshop: Beginning & Ending with Empathy

Hosted by Ohio Domestic Violence Network:
Advocacy Skills Interactive Workshop: Beginning & Ending with Empathy
During this workshop, advocates will delve into the importance of empathy when supporting both youth and adult survivors of domestic violence. Through examples and interactive scenarios, participants will enhance their ability to respond effectively in these situations. Key concepts from Rogerian theory will be explored, emphasizing the significance of meeting survivors ‘where they are at’—a practice that requires not only active listening but also controlled empathy.
The session will highlight trauma-informed approaches, provide clear dos and don’ts for effective advocacy, and stress the importance of creating emotional and physical safety. Additionally, advocates will be encouraged to explore their own biases and expectations, ensuring they approach their service with openness and understanding.
Registration ends April 18th.
Cost: Free with a DV program, organizational, or individual membership. $20 for non-members.
This training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. Please contact ODVN at training@odvn.org with any questions.
