ODVN – Advocacy Skills Interactive Workshop: Trauma-Responsive Approaches to Supporting Parents & Youth

Enhance your skills by engaging in interactive scenarios that explore how to provide a sense of safety to parents and youth experiencing trauma or stress responses. Move beyond simply recognizing their distress to feeling more confident in your responses and intervention strategies. Advocates will practice reframing feelings, thoughts, and behaviors using a trauma-informed framework. This approach offers hope and a deeper understanding to parents and youth impacted by domestic violence.

This workshop will also examine the behavioral, emotional, and cognitive effects of trauma, with a focus on long-term stress responses related to trauma, domestic violence, grief, and loss. Key topics include trauma-informed practices, effective and ineffective approaches (dos and don’ts), strategies for providing emotional and physical safety, and an exploration of personal biases and expectations in service delivery.

Cost: Free with a DV program, organizational, or individual membership. $20 for non-members.
