ODVN – Intersections of Partner-Inflicted Brain Injury, Oppression, and Racism: Supporting Survivors of Color
Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network:
Intersections of Partner-Inflicted Brain Injury, Oppression, and Racism: Supporting Survivors of Color
Please join ODVN for this free, virtual training.
Survivors of color have systemic barriers to accessing all types of services and are disproportionally impacted by challenges with access to housing, employment, social services, and other social determinants of health. As awareness is raised on brain injury as an unrecognized and unaddressed consequence of domestic violence, identifying and addressing those barriers while developing culturally responsive approaches for all survivors is of paramount importance.
This training will bring together ODVN’s Rachel Ramirez, Founder of the Center of Partner-Inflicted Brain Injury, and Nneka MacGregor, Executive Director of WomenatthecentrE in Toronto, Canada, as well as a panel of diverse experts to better understand the long-term impacts of concussion, traumatic brain injury, and strangulation. Speakers will discuss the unique characteristics of brain injury from violence and address the challenges and opportunities to support survivors of color using the CARE model (Connect, Acknowledge, Respond, Evaluate), a brain injury aware, trauma-informed, and survivor-directed framework developed by ODVN and The Ohio State University. WomenatthecentrE is an organization that centers the voices of women-identified survivors of gendered violence.
This training is designed for advocates at all skill levels.
Trainers: Rachel Ramirez, LISW-S, RA, Director of Health and Disability Programs and Founder of the Center on Partner-Inflicted Brain Injury, ODVN; Nneka MacGregor, Executive Director, WomenatthecentrE
