Youth Advocacy Caucus: Navigating Mandated Visitations with Youth Survivors

When a Survivor as a parent leaves a violent relationship, the family often must navigate visitation with the abusive parent, all while dealing with ongoing safety concerns. The emotional and physical toll on both parents and their children, as they struggle to balance safety and normalcy, is significant. This caucus aims to raise awareness among advocates about the emotional strain children and teens experience during visitation so they can better support families in these situations.

The spring Youth Advocacy Caucus will focus on the challenges surrounding post-separation violence, trauma reactions, and youth visitation, exploring the complexities that impact both children, teens, and their (survivor) parents. Join a panel of experts as they share insights and strategies for supporting parents and young people through these difficult and complex experiences that too often bring unfamiliar risks, stress, and uncertainty.
