Youth Advocacy Caucus: Spotlighting ODVN’s Youth Programming |
| As November arrives, it’s time to focus on seasonal activities for youth in shelter and domestic violence programs. This youth caucus meeting will explore engaging and effective strategies for the upcoming fall and winter months. We will cover skill building and toolkit development, offering methods to help children and youth manage their energy while developing resilience and calming techniques.
Attendees will learn about trauma-informed practices and how to integrate them into your programs to better support youth and families. We will review valuable resources, including Gabby Garcia’s interactive picture book Listening to My Body, which helps children tune into their feelings and bodily sensations; Nick Ortner’s My Magic Breath, a beautifully illustrated book teaching mindful breathing for calm; and Gorilla Thumps and Bear Hugs, a Tapping Solution story that introduces the scientifically backed “Tapping” technique for managing stress and emotions. Additional resources include creative youth activities, ideas for family support groups, and ZENworks yoga breathing videos with guided breathing exercises tailored for children. |
