ODVN – Youth Advocacy Caucus: Supporting Youth Living with Autism in Domestic Violence Services
|
Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network: Youth Advocacy Caucus: Supporting Youth Living with Autism in Domestic Violence Services |
| Domestic violence shelters and non-residential programs have youth residents diagnosed with and/or living on the Autism Spectrum. Many programs describe feeling unprepared to support these children and their parents. In Ohio, we can create shelter and outreach spaces with sensory guidance and learn skills to support Autistic children and their parents.
Please join ODVN’s keynote speaker, Mandi Rickelman from Monarch Center for Autism, as she teaches how to co-support families seeking safety and services. Participants will learn an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the definition of ASD, its common characteristics, and practical strategies to use in the shelter environment. This caucus meeting will explore how the unique characteristics of ASD are experienced by different individuals and their families, and how to provide a supportive and empathetic environment through visuals and scenarios. |
| Keynote Speaker: Mandi Rickelman, MA, Director of the Welcoming Spaces Program at Monarch Center for Autism, a division of Bellefaire JCB
This is a FREE virtual event. Deadline to Register: May 9, 2024 This training is offered by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. Please contact ODVN at training@odvn.org with any questions. |
