OVWA Quarterly Training: Marsy’s Law Implementation and Advocacy Best Practices
Please join Elizabeth Well, Legal Director, Ohio Crime Victim Justice Center (OCVJC), Valerie Hooper, R.A.,C.A., Unit 107, Victim Advocate/Offender Watch, Supervisor, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Operations Division, and Wendy Ricks Hoff, BA,RA CA, TRCC, OVWA Program Director, to discuss best practices for systems advocacy and the implementation of Marsy’s Law. While crime victim rights have been in place since 1992, Marsy’s Law and the passage of the constitutional amendment based on Marsy’s Law increased the strength of many existing laws as well as instituted additional mandates on many systems professionals. While criminal justice systems bear the bulk of the responsibility for crime victim rights mandates, both systems- and community-based advocates may be in the position of ensuring these rights are protected and easily accessible. This training will identify the current legal requirements, common difficulties in the implementation within the system, and best practices and ethical considerations for advocates in balancing systems advocacy with crime victim rights advocacy in the criminal justice system.
If you require accommodations to attend this training, please email info@ovwa.org no later than one week prior to the webinar date.
This training is preapproved for CEU’s from OAN, NACP, and the State of Ohio CSWMFT Board.
