July 17, 2025 @ 12:30 pm4:00 pm

Open to OVWA Members AND Non-Members!

Take a deep dive into best practices for supporting LGBTQIA+ populations in this illuminating training. This training will begin with an overview of contextual factors including population identification and current legislation. Attendees will gain an understanding of common issues faced by LGBTQIA+ youth including minority stress, bullying, school difficulties, family issues, and lack of housing. We will explore the implications and consequences of discrimination; learn ethical and affirming evidence-based best practices, skills, and techniques; and understand how to help victims of crime in this vulnerable population identify and develop protective factors. Lastly, we will discover how to adapt our current advocacy skills to better address informed consent and confidentiality through protective approaches.
