OVWA Webinar Wednesday: Trauma-Informed Services for Homicide Co-Victims

July 10, 2024 @ 2:00 pm4:30 pm

Join us for an in-depth look at the murders of Jenea Harvison and Donnell McDonald from the lived experience of their mother, Crystal Turner, and the criminal justice professionals who supported her throughout the court case: Jane McKenzie, Director (Retired), Victim Witness Unit of the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office; Sgt. Terry McConnell, Columbus Police Department; Det. Dana Croom (Retired), Columbus Police Department; and Chrystal Pounds-Alexander, Administrator, ODRC Office of Victim Services. During this training, you will learn about the murder of Jenea and Donnell from the events leading up to the homicides through the criminal case and post-conviction process from all of the professionals involved. We will hear from Crystal not only about the tragic loss of her children and the subsequent criminal case, but also about the long-term aftermath and impact on her family and the intentional advocacy work she has undertaken to improve criminal justice systems responses for co-victims of homicide. Attendees will learn how the criminal justice process is experienced and perceived by both professionals and co-victims of homicide; how the 2020 landmark needs assessment (an OCJS-funded OVWA project) informed the development of best practice guidance; and will identify tools to implement trauma-informed change to improve services to co-victims of homicide. If you require accommodations to attend this training, please email info@ovwa.org by July 3. This training is preapproved for CEU’s from OAN, NACP, and the State of Ohio CSWMFT Board….
