Addressing Substance Use & Mental Health with Harm Reduction Strategies

Substance use and mental health are highly prevalent concerns among survivors of gender-based violence. This training will provide participants with an overview of the intersection of substance use, mental health, and trauma and how Harm Reduction principles and practices offer needed accommodations for survivors seeking safety from abuse. These practices acknowledge that drug use/abuse is a part of life and seek to reduce the harmful effects for survivors. They look at drug use on a continuum of severity and need and attempt to connect individuals with a sense of community without an “abstinence only” narrative. In addition, participants will learn about stigma reduction in community services and how to give power and control back to the survivors.

Registration ends April 3rd. 

Cost: Free for ODVN Members (ODVN Member Program or Individual/Organizational Membership); $25 for Non-ODVN Members.
