ODVN – Advocacy Skills Interactive Workshop: De-escalation Strategies: Understanding Co-regulation & Soothing Skills

Hosted by the Ohio Domestic Violence Network
Empathy and active listening are essential trauma-informed approaches that develop through intentional skill-building. Similarly, co-regulation —the ability to support others in managing their emotions —is strengthened through ongoing learning and practice. Advocates who can recognize and manage their internal responses are better equipped to create emotionally safe spaces for youth and adult survivors of domestic violence. This workshop will explore the “tone of your caregiving” and reflect on how our presence impacts those we support. Through discussions on secondary trauma exposure, grounding and regulation techniques, and common barriers to co-regulation and rapport-building, attendees will gain greater insight into their caregiving role. Attendees will leave with three personalized strategies to support their well-being and strengthen their capacity to care for others with empathy and resilience.
Cost: Free with a DV program, organizational, or individual membership. $20 for non-members.
Registration ends October 24th.
