ODVN – Court Advocacy Roundtable

| A court advocate can play an important role in a domestic violence survivor’s journey through the legal system, not only by navigating the system but also by providing support and safety tips to the survivor. Often, advocates focus on the legal system and forget to check in with survivors about other needs they may have, leaving survivors with more stress than they had before their involvement with the legal system. This virtual roundtable will help advocates see the importance of supporting survivors with their legal needs, while also understanding why it’s important to identify challenges survivors face when involved in the justice system. This training includes presenters and a panel of victim service professionals that will provide advocates with an understanding on the core meaning of legal advocacy, how to assist survivors in navigating the civil and criminal justice systems, and how to effectively partner with other victim service providers in their community.
