A Children’s Corner Resource

Grief is personal. There is no single “right way” to remember someone you love.
Many people, both children and adults, find comfort in staying connected through meaningful actions.
If any of these ideas feel right to you, you might try them.

  1. Create a Memory Jar
Write your favorite memories on small pieces of paper and place them in a jar. On difficult days, you can pull one out and read it.
  2. Make Their Favorite Meal or Treat
Prepare something they enjoyed, a favorite meal, dessert, or snack. Share a story while you eat.
  3. Do an Act of Kindness in Their Name
Help someone, volunteer, donate, or offer encouragement to another person as a way to honor their memory.
  4. Create a Music Playlist
Gather songs that remind you of them or of special times you shared.
  5. Write Them a Letter
Write about what you miss, what you wish you could say, or what has changed since they have been gone. You do not have to give it to anyone. Keep it somewhere meaningful.
  6. Create a Memory Box
Place photos, notes, small keepsakes, or meaningful objects in a decorated box to look at when you choose.
  7. Plant Something Living
Plant a flower, tree, or small plant in their honor. Caring for it can become a quiet ritual of remembrance.
  8. Mark Important Dates
On birthdays or anniversaries, light a candle, spend quiet time, or gather with others to share memories.
  9. Create Art or Something Handmade
Draw, paint, journal, build, or create something that represents your connection.
  10. Carry a Small Reminder
Wear or keep something that reminds you of them, a piece of jewelry, a favorite color, a phrase, or a symbol.

You may feel sadness, gratitude, anger, peace, or many emotions at once. All of those experiences are valid. If at any time you feel overwhelmed, reaching out to a trusted adult, friend, or support professional can help.
